The name in File, Properties
Word, LibreOffice, and a lot of scanners store your name, the app, and the dates in the PDF properties. Anyone who opens File, Properties can read them.
Drop one PDF. We clear that list and the XMP packet. Pages, text you can select, and answers in a form stay.
How to clear PDF properties
- Drop one PDF, up to 20 MB and 80 pages.
- Read the list: author, title, program, dates, and whether an XMP packet is there.
- Remove metadata. A file that already has none comes back unchanged.
- Delete it when you have it. Files are deleted within 1 hour.
What this page leaves alone
A password-protected PDF is refused. We do not unlock files.
A digitally signed PDF is refused. Clearing properties would break the signature.
Visible text, comments, and attachments stay. GPS inside a photo in the PDF is a different job: Remove EXIF before you build the PDF. A heavy file goes to Compress PDF.
Questions
What gets removed?
Title, author, subject, keywords, creator, producer, created and modified dates, any other field in that property list, and the XMP packet.
Will the pages look different?
The pages stay as they are. We do not recompress the images inside the PDF.
Is this the same as Acrobat Sanitize?
Sanitize also hunts comments, hidden text, and old revisions. This page clears the property list and the XMP packet.
The PDF is signed.
We stop. A rewrite would invalidate the signature.
It has a password.
Remove the password where the file was created.
How long do you keep the file?
Deleted within 1 hour, or immediately if you press delete now.
