JPEG into WebP for the web
WebP is what you want on a site that already uses it. This page takes JPEG and writes WebP, usually smaller at a similar look.
Do not send WebP to a 2014 government form. Convert back with WebP to JPG if a site rejects it.
How to convert JPG to WebP
- Drop JPEG files.
- Convert on the server.
- Download WebP. Check in a current browser.
- Delete when you have the files.
Compatibility
Safari, Chrome, Firefox, and Edge all open WebP now. Old Java plugins and some academic portals do not.
Animation is not in scope. Still photos only.

Smaller than JPEG?
Usually, at a similar visual quality. Not a law of physics. We tell you if it grew.
Lossy or lossless?
Photos go through the same photographic pipeline as the other convert pages, aimed at a smaller file.
Keep EXIF?
Do not count on GPS surviving a convert. Strip on purpose with Remove EXIF if that is the goal.
Will a 2014 government form open WebP?
Usually no. Convert back with WebP to JPG if a portal rejects it.

How large can each file be?
