Shrink a PNG without an editor
PNG is the right file for logos, interfaces, and screenshots with text. It is often the wrong file for a camera photo.
This page recompresses PNG. It will not flatten transparency unless you convert to JPEG on PNG to JPG.
How to compress PNG
- Drop PNG files only. Photos from a phone are often HEIC or JPEG. Use those tools instead.
- Compress. Colors drop and the file shrinks. The preview on the page stays the original.
- If the PNG is still huge, convert a photo to JPG or WebP. Keep PNG when you need a sharp edge or alpha.
- Download the files or the ZIP.
When PNG is the wrong file
A photo saved as PNG gets smaller when colors drop, and it can still be heavy. JPG or WebP is usually smaller when you do not need a sharp edge or alpha.
Alpha is kept. If you need a solid background for a form that rejects PNG, use PNG to JPG and pick the fill color there.

The result stays PNG with the same pixel dimensions. The palette has fewer colours, so the pixel values can change. This example does not prove that text or gradients in your file will look identical.

Will text in a screenshot stay sharp?
Flat areas of color stay clean. A smooth gradient picks up a little grain. Check the download, because the preview stays the original.
Can I keep transparency?
Yes on this page. JPEG cannot. WebP can. See PNG to WebP.
Why did a photo PNG barely shrink?
A photo has more colors than a PNG palette stores cheaply. Convert it to JPG.
Is this TinyPNG?

How large can each file be?
