iPhone HEIC to WebP for the web

Convert the iPhone photo to WebP. HEIC is gone. WebP is what you want on a page that already uses WebP. Forms that reject WebP belong on HEIC to JPG instead.

Live Photos use the main photo. HDR becomes a standard 8-bit WebP.

How to convert HEIC to WebP

  1. Drop .heic or .heif from Files or Photos.
  2. Convert on the server. Download WebP, or a ZIP of several.
  3. If a portal then rejects WebP, run WebP to JPG.
  4. Delete when you have the files. They are deleted within 1 hour.

WebP is not JPEG

Older Windows apps still choke on WebP. Use JPEG when the other side is a form.

Transparency is uncommon on camera HEIC; the WebP stays opaque.
