A hard 50 KB cap
Government portals, visa uploads, and some contest forms still print 'maximum 50 KB'. This page aims at that number, not a quality slider.
If the photo cannot fit, you still download the smallest file we could make, with a clear miss note. We do not silently upload a file that will bounce.
How to get close to 50 KB
- Drop a photo. A 12 MP phone shot will need a lot of compression; a passport crop is easier.
- Compress. We search for an encoding that lands at or under 50 KB when the image allows it.
- If we miss, read the note, then try Resize image (smaller pixels) or Crop image the face, and run 50 KB again.
- Download. Delete the files.
What actually fits in 50 KB
A tiny ID crop in JPEG usually fits. A full-resolution PNG almost never does. You can drop HEIC here (it becomes JPEG). A full-res phone photo rarely fits 50 KB. Crop or convert first.
We would rather hand you the smallest honest file than pretend a 400 KB original became 50 KB of the same detail.

Is 50 KB guaranteed?
No. If the image cannot get that small, you get the smallest version plus a message. Resize or crop, then retry.
What format do I get back?
We keep PNG when it fits. If a photo cannot fit as PNG, we switch to JPEG and, if needed, shrink the pixels. You still get a miss note if the cap is impossible.
Can I use this for a visa photo?
Check the portal: many want JPEG, a plain background, and a pixel size as well as 50 KB. Resize image after or before this page. For the form story, see 50 KB photo.
Why only 50, 100, 200, and 500 KB?
We don't make a page per kilobyte. Four caps (50, 100, 200, 500) cover the forms people actually meet.
Can I send several photos?
